Лас Вегас, судя по всему, меняет профиль, превращаясь в кузницу молодых рок-талантов: первыми в 2004 г. выстрелили Killers; год 2005 - и снова приятная неожиданность. На этот раз в виде четверки молодых людей под замысловатым названием Panic! At The Disco. Как ни странно, к дискотеке в классическом понимании этого слова их музыка имеет слабое отношение, однако необычная смесь модного нынче эмо-попа с электроникой все же заставляет тело невольно двигаться в такт.
Современные технологии оставили свой след не только в звучании песен, но и сыграли решающую роль в карьере группы: благодаря сверхактивному использованию Интернета для собственной раскрутки (как через рассылку песен на рекорд-лейблы, так и участие в различных блогах), контракт с Fueled By Ramen (рекорд-лейбл басиста Fall Out Boy) был подписан задолго до первого живого выступления коллектива.
Восьмой по счету трэк "Intermission" (антракт/смена), в полном соответствии со своим названием, делит дебютный альбом группы на две самобытные части. Первая приправлена электронно обработанным вокалом, синтезаторным звучанием 80-х и ритмом драм-машины. Вторая – отсылка к более эклектичному ретро-звучанию с использованием пианино, аккордеона, виолончели, ксилофона и даже духовых! При этом никаким "перебором" и не пахнет - напротив, юношеский драматизм и нетривиальная мелодичность, как оказывается, прекрасно сочетаются со столь разнообразными вкраплениями.
Сейчас P!ATD купаются в лучах неожиданно свалившейся на них славы, мелькая на обложках музыкальных журналов, раздавая интервью направо и налево, а главное, гастролируя по США и Европе с коллегами по цеху (The Academy Is..., Acceptance, hellogoodbye). Потому, главный вопрос на сегодня: выдержат ли музыканты из игорной столицы мира столь мощный напор со стороны СМИ и поклонников? Сказать наверняка - трудно, но, как известно, кто не рискует - не пьет шампанского. Им ли не знать этой прописной истины мира азартных игр

История группы «Panic! at the disco» началась в пригороде Лас Вегаса, когда 12-тилетний Райан Росс попросил у родителей на рождество гитару . Соседский паренек Спенсер Смит, чтобы не отставать, тут же потребовал ударную установку . Первые репетиции группы проходили в спальне бабушки Спенсера, однако все, что они смогли сыграть за первый год - это десятки кавер-версий хитов Blink 182.

Позже к ним присоединились одноклассники Брент Уилсон (Brent Wilson) и Брендон Ури (Brendon Urie). Именно таким составом «Panic! at the disco» в домашних условиях записали свой первый альбом «A Fever You Can't Sweat Out».

В целях продвижения своего творчества, музыканты кинули ссылку на свой сайт в ЖЖ Пита Венца из Fall Out Boy. Тот настолько проперся, что лично представил музыкантов рекорд-лейблу «Декаданс» (Decaydance). Таким образом, «Panic! At the disco» подписали контракт, даже не окончив школу - на тот момент им было по 16 -17 лет.

Альбом «A Fever You Can't Sweat Out» разошелся тиражом более полумиллиона экземпляров, вошел в топ чарта Биллборд и в 20-ку самых продаваемых синглов Британии.

Молодые триумфаторы Panic! At The Disco пробились в этом году на телевидение, в чарты и в готовые полюбить сердца публики. И хотя в их активе пока только один альбом - дебют 2005 года "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out", музыканты знают о своей музыке больше, чем критики.

Именно приклеенный критиками к их музыке ярлычок "Emo" вызывает у ребят из Panic! At The Disco наибольшее раздражение.

"Это просто невежественно. Согласно стереотипу, эмо играют болезненные юноши, у которых разрушились отношения, и теперь они поют о том, как им грустно. Если вы слышали наши песни, вы знаете, что ни одна из них не такова", - возмущается вокалист группы Брендон Арие (Brendon Urie) в интервью журналу NME. "Эмо - просто чушь!, - не может остановиться Брендон. - Если люди хотят употреблять этот термин буквально - тогда да, мы действительно эмоциональная группа, мы вкладываем глубокий смысл в то, что делаем. Люди пытаются стереотипно воспринимать нас, но мы не вмещаемся в рамки эмо-стерепотипа".
